The Bible

The Bible, the Holy Scriptures. What could I write about that on a single web page? Let’s start with my personal experience.

Personal experience with the Bible

My dad read the bible every evening after dinner, and we discussed about it. Also in church the pastor read the bible, and sometimes I tried to read it myself. But I found that quite difficult mostly. When I worked in Israel at Technion, Haifa for three months in 1995, I read my bible from cover to cover. If you read every day it is just a few pages a day. I enjoyed it a lot. These days there is quite good free bible software around like MySword – Free Android Bible. On Windows I use https://www.e-sword.net/.

Before we continue…

Before we continue we should remind ourselves that when God speaks he allows the enemy to make some sound as well. Some examples:

TopicGodThe Enemy
The fallGen 3:2-3  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3  But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. Gen 3:4-5 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
The resurrectionMat 28:5-7 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.   He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7  And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. Mat 28:12-15  And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, 13  Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. 14  And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. 15  So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
The Holy GhostAct 2:4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Act 2:13  Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

John chapter 9

One of the most famous examples in this category is John Chapter 9:

John chapter 9

This video is quite clear. It explains how there are different views of one event. And as you can see, the views are quite opposite.

Different versions of the Bible

I also wondered why there are different versions of the bible. Why do some parts of the bible get more focus than other parts like for example Jesus’ return?

If you are looking for proof that the bible is true and that the bible version you are reading is the best one, I have to disappoint you. This is not in agreement with the table above. God has given mankind free will, which means that there will be about any topic multiple viewpoints.

Like in a chess game, there is more than 1 possible move, but one is the best, the truth.

Could you maybe try to find out what the majority thinks and stick to that opinion?

Mat 7:13  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Mat 7:14  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

That doesn’t seem to be a good strategy as well…

What now? If you want to know the truth about the bible, you have to dig for it. And you’ll find different opinions, that is how God has designed it to be.

Mat_11:25  At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

I’d like to split this Bible topic into a couple of subtopics:

If you’re not into deep diving in the Bible, I would like to tell you:

He cares for you, though you might not always realise that
